How do SIDS work?
Sorry to bug you all again, but (isn't there always a but) I was wondering if someone could give me an example of blowing up a battlestation using the SIDS procedure. As far as I can tell it would take 4 battle rounds (unless you use an SAF?) giving you a chance to use the BATS and your ships to kill off the enemies Scout, Flagship, Mauler, etc. and hopefully reducing their COMPOT to something that can't destroy the BATS. Is this correct?
Thanks Again,
Nick

Yep...
1st round - they score one SIDS step against your BATS... you take out his mauler...
Second round... they score one SIDS against your BATS... you take out their scout...
Third round... they score one SIDS against your BATS... you take out the biggest cruiser on the line...
The BATS is now crippled... you retreat all units...
Fourth round... they put up a cruiser line angainst an undefended and crippled BATS... you can't score enough damage to cripple anything, so no effect to them... they destroy your BATS... no units left in the hex to retreat, so no pursuit battle is possible.

Never say, "Never!"
Varying circumstances will often make it profitable to send a mauler up against a BATS.
With a big enough battleline.. you can pick a low BIR and they will not do enough damage to DirDam (WHANG!)... err, I mean direct damage the mauler.
[Sorry Jean... didn't mean to introduce jargon into the conversation]
