Kzinti BC Drone Control
Hello All,
4F2e states that a ship can control no more than 6 seeking weapons unless it is noted otherwise on the ship card. The card for the Kzinti BC has no note on it that I can see but the ship itself has 4 drone racks and I would think that it should be able to control more than 6 drones. Is this ship really limited to 6 drones?

Yes, most kzinti ships have 4+ drone racks and the can only control 6 drones.
I can't remember which, NCC or CC, but one of the kzinti command cruisers can control 12 drones even though it didn't have that note on it (they can both control 12). That may have been corrected since the earlier printings of the card?

It was the CC that was retroactively given the ability to control 12 drones. The NCC always had it.
The ability to control 12 drones in Federation Commander is very rare. Basically, it is limited to:
- Starbases
- Battleships with drones
- Drone ships
- Some Kzinti command ships
Other than that, ships with drone racks are limited to controlling 6 at a time.

Yes, that is the case. I used 'some Kzinti command ships' to cover the CC, NCC, BCH, and DN. By keeping if vague, I didn't have to list them individually and risk missing (or overstating) one.storeylf wrote:That probably comes under 'some kzinti command ships'
Battleships were listed separately, because it includes more than just the Kzinti. All battleships with drones (Kzinti, Klingon, Federation) have double drone control.

All drone racks were changed to either Type-A drone racks or fix-load Type-G drone racks. (The latter being the "Fed-style" drone racks.)DNordeen wrote:Since we're on the subject of Kzinti drones...why were the C-racks basically changed into A-racks when going from SFB to FC? Just curious.
I believe the change was made to keep a better control on the drone rate so that they won't overload the game. Remember: there are no wild weasels, so the drone rate has to be low enough the an equivalent ship can deal with the incoming drone storm. So, that keeps a lid on the Type-C drone racks. For the Type-B drone racks, with infinite reloads, they really aren't needed, and only having two types of drone racks simplifies the rules.

If C Racks were the fire twice a turn ones then they would make Kzinti almost unbeatable I expect. Dealing with Kzinti is tough, but far from impossible at the moment. If they could throw out that many drones per turn they'd be nigh on impossible to deal with unless you happened to have some serious anti drone systems, i.e Vudar or Tholian.
