Overloading / strong plasma loading during Energy Allocation
Could there ever be a reason to overload a photon or load plasma stronger than G during the energy allocation as oposed to do it at the instance of firing?
The latter seems to me to be better in EVERY way. You pay the same amount of energy, but you are much more flexible. If you decide not to do it later, you can use the energy for something else. And if you happen not to fire the weapon, you can hold the torpedo for less energy (or at all in the case of plasma R).
I feel like the rulebook puts the "in the instance of firing" option as just "oh and btw this is also possible", when it actually seems it is something you should ALWAYS do. This confuses me a bit.

For the photon, probably not.
For the plasma, as Nicole points out, if the launcher is destroyed before the plasma is launched, you can't improve it. And, since you can only improve it during energy allocation or at the point of launch, that can be a potential restriction.

There is a ton of information contained in the threads at this forum including rule explanations, rule changes, tactics tips, etc. The Search feature can be a good friend whenever something comes up. The thing that is most amazing (to me, anyway) is the help from people who play the game. Not only are they knowledgeable, but they always respond in a timely manner unless there is a good reason for a delay.

Yeah, I definitely try to search for the answer first before asking. It is a bit inconvenient though, that the search results list just the threads in which the keyword is contained, but not the context or location. So one must go through several pages of the thread to find the instance of the word only to see it was just a random hit not at all helping with your question.
