2500s ON SHAPEWAYS

We will begin releasing a few print to order ships on Shapeways. It will be the end of March before our store is open (we found out today we cannot get it open on Monday as we wanted), but we should have two or three new ships (including the long-awaited Vulture for 2500) on line by the early April. After that, we're going to work very hard to add a new ship or two every month. (The existing CGIs require tedious conversion work to go on Shapeways, so it won't be an instant release of lots of ships.) We plan to include the missing 2500 dreadnoughts (Klingon B10 and C9, Kzinti DN, Romulan Condor and Vulture) by the end of summer. They will be offered in both metal and plastic.

The costs of the various materials vary wildly from under $20 (the lowest printed plastic) to over $20,000 (platinum). We'll offer several choices, but until we get some samples in here we have no idea how "good" each choice is. On the other hand this is the only way you're going to get the missing once-resin dreadnoughts.

Watch for more news as it happens. We're learning as we go, so be patient.

We will be releasing some more 2500s in cast metal like the previous producton. Shapeways is just another venue for special ships. Give us ten years and i'm sure all of the ships will be there, but not this year.
More minis, more options, and (finally) some that had been stuck in limbo for a long time will see gaming tables.

YES!!!

Now I can complete my B-10 fleet in 2500 scale.

Need the Invincible...
The Insatiable...
The Inviolable...
The Invulnerable...

Then I need one to convert to the Inseparable...
3 more for B-11s
one to convert to a B-10T
One more for just the boom...
One for the mythical MB-10 Mauler variant...

Look like I need 11 of them.
.

Maybe I'll make it an even dozen

Or possibly a baker's dozen...

I don't want to repeat here what's been cross posted on the BBS and on Facebook, but we CAN do anything, WILL do whatever makes sense, but all of it will TAKE TIME. Right now, we're just GUESSING how things are going to work and how long it will take. We found out two days ago that just because the Shapeways auto-check works that doesn't mean that a given combination of model and material will work. (Metallic plastic was greenlighted, then we ordered a test sample and it suddenly got moved to the "failed" column. Will rebuilt the ship to pass but said it was a lot of work and he's not sure anyone will buy that material anyway.)

We need to do several "resin dreadnoughts" including the B10, C5, C8, Kzinti DN, Romulan Condor and Vulture. At a guess, figure one of those will get released each month. And during the next month, we have asked Mongoose to do the Fed CA and Klingon D7 in both scales to attract new customers.

The B10 will happen, but it could easily take entire days of work by Sandrine to combine the parts and get it past the checks.

Oh, I know.

I don't expect it to happen overnight. Just anxious for that one most of all.

Don't worry, you've got plenty of new goodies to suckle at my bank account until then!

Sooooo many pictures of the test prints of the new SkyHawk-L destroyer leader.

In "White Strong & Flexible"

In "Polished Green Strong & Flexible"

In Clear Acrylic (yes, the "clear resin" Romulans can finally happen - just not the way originally intended and probably better)
Image

In "Black Hi-Def Acrylate" (my personal favorite; the surface and details are exquisite)
Image

In "Frosted Ultra Definition" ("FUD" - the long-standing go-to material choice for gaming minis on Shapeways)
Image

In "Frosted Extreme Definition"

Can I just set up an auto-pay of say $100 USD a month and have the latest shipped to me? :D

I've been asking for years if I could just have part of my paycheck direct deposited into ADBs account.
It would save a lot of trouble!

The first ones (the SkyHawk-L and the Vulture) probably within two weeks. We want to get some more ships loaded before opening the store. We have three working ships now, and are waiting on two from Matthew L and two or four from Mongoose. I cannot predict how long those will take. Oh, wait, one of the ones from ML is a Romulan, so three.

The rest will get loaded over time. We have only a vague idea how much trouble it is to get a ship to work and no idea at all how well they will sell. The better the sales of the first ships, the fast more ships will appear.

Coming soon when the ADB Shapeways store opens, the Klingon F-5S scout frigate, in both Starline 2450 and Starline 2500 scales.

Looks fabulous - I am so ordering that when it is available!

Although the initial notice said the ADB Shapeways store would be opening at the end of March, am I correct in saying this hasn't happened yet? I tried looking and I couldn't find it, but I can't rule out I missed it as Shapeways is not the best organised site in the world.

Cheers.

Sorry for the delay in opening. One of our designers had a death in her family and we need her ships for the opening. We are working to get it done as soon as possible. We just want to make sure that we have the Klingons and Federation represented as well as the Romulans.

You know that if there are only Romulan ships, they'll start working on taking over the Shapeways galaxy!!!
