Laminate Cards for the Briefing Ships

Post by Paul B »

Any chance of the Briefing 1 (And possibly 2) ships ever being produced as laminate cards?

I'm guessing that all of the ships in briefing 2 could be replicated just by marking off some boxes on the normal ships

However the briefing 1 ships seem quite distinct and don't appear anywhere else so far as I know.

For Briefing #1, it is Booster #92 that you are looking for.

For Briefing #2, probably not. There are just too many of them, and they wouldn't sell enough to justify making laminated cards. (Unless ADB has finally figured out how to do laminated cards on demand.)

Laminated cards on demand...I'd pay for that.

There was a discussion about that. The price for singles wasn't within what the majority would pay.

Ah sweet, I wasn't sure what that booster was about. I noticed the AEGIS thing it mentioned but not the drone ships which were the thing that actually caught my fancy.

Either way I only use the laminated cards so good to have some of the print ships converted.

I have found color printing on cardstock combined with placement in a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2"" sheet protector works fairly well as an alternative to laminated cards.

I purchased the e23 Briefing #2 PDFs and made up a whole set of ship cards (including multiples for the more commonly used ships). I prefer real laminated cards, but they did come out very nicely.

Yeah. Right now I kinda feel like I have more money than time, rather than more time than money, so I don't really want to mess around doing that sort of thing anymore :)

I just want things convenient and ready to go.

But it is an alternative for anyone who doesn't mind doing that.

Perhaps someone with more money than time could get someone who has more time than money to make up the cards and money could go to the one who has time from the one who has money...that is, if they are not available otherwise. Would that be legal?

If I can get 10 people to agree on each of TWO non-laminated cards from any existing source I will sneak them into the reprint batch I am about to do.

Each person name 10 ships you want me to convert to full laminated cards and the first two to get 10 votes get done. IF we make money on them i'll do more.

Of the units which already have non-laminated Ship Cards (and which aren't in Omega):

*Federation Byrd-class Galactic Survey Cruiser (Main Era)
*Romulan SparrowHawk-C "Owl" Scout

In both cases above, those ships were originally offered as Borders of Madness units, since special sensor rules had yet to be integrated into "vanilla" FC. But in light of more recent revisions to the RRB, both ships would have little preventing them from being re-purposed for general use in the Main Era. (But on the other hand, the GSC and SPC might stand out more in the absence of other survey cruiser hulls, or laminated scout Ship Cards, to complement them.)

*M81 Pirate Raider Cruiser (CL40)
*M81 Pirate Raider Destroyer (CL40)

If there were to be a re-print batch for Tholian Attack at some point, the OGR and OGD would each make for a handy way to flesh out the home galaxy options available to Neo-Tholian and Seltorian players. But these pirate hulls might seem more conspicuous if included with another module's re-print instead.

I'd keep the Omega set of Ship Cards listed separately, since they wouldn't really work in this setup (and are still in playtest form at this point).

I don't really get the appeal of Battletugs myself. Turning a freighter into what seems like a potent combat unit always struck me as a bit silly.

Fed DDF was in Reinforcements Attack.

However, I would second the nominations of:
Federation BCP
Federation CB
Federation (GW-era) GSC
Klingon B10 Boom
Klingon F5L
Romulan K5L

On the subject of laminated cards, is that something that ADB produces in-house? I was looking at try to put together a game of my own and I like the new laminate-card SSD format that FedCom uses (rather than the old paper like SFB, B5Wars, and countless other games).

Or do they just go to a local or regional printer.

I know they print something in-house but maybe it's just the rulebooks.
