Miniatures

Post by wedge_hammersteel »

I wanted to ask if anyone might know of a miniature line that would be approriate for SFM? 15mm to 28mm

They don't have to be official looking miniatures but something that would be a reasonable good stand-in.

Any thoughts on using miniatures for SFM?

Even 15mm might be a little big; I was thinking more 6mm, akin to the scale used in games like Epic: Armageddon (which base five infantry figures per stand).

(KRAG, on the other hand, sounds like it might be a better fit for 15-28mm figs once it gets developed; since it would be based on one person per unit/stand instead.)

I knew it was squads we are talking about. I googled KRAG. I am using Chain Reaction 3.0 rules for man to man boarding party combat.

I will check out the other game you mentioned.

Playing SFM with the chits will be fine but I like painting stuff.

Wedge I have been chewing on that question a while myself. For humanoids Feds, Klinks, and Roms there id not really a problem in 15 or 28mm just find 3 different armored troops and your good. I found a site that had passable Tigermen in armor in 15mm but the real pain is finding a good Gorn standin. Tholians should not be to bad scratch building.

Before I rush out and comission a couple of custom sculpts I was waiting to see what scale Tribble was going to use. That might provide a good enough start on Klingons to convince me to jump up to 25/28mm.

Gary, the question of scale is strictly in the eye of the beholder. If someone has the room there is no reason 28mm would not work for SFM and if Flames of war can play in 15mm then so can SFM. I considered 6mm/1:285 scale but in the end I decided if i do this I want more detail so I will go larger and which ever scale I pick will double for Prime Directive Demos.

Right now I plan to use 28mm in tribbles, but then, we haven't done it yet, and we could end up with 15mm because of the map size.

Resurrecting this thread to suggest that the Reaper 10 mm C.A.V. line seems ideal for SFM. I picked up a bunch of these on ebay last summer, and backed their recent Kickstarter.

Although CAV is primarily a mechs game, they have a large number of ground vehicles, dropships, and infantry -- all of which are the best proxies I've seen for the SFU units used in Star Fleet Marines. I'm planning to paint mine to do double duty in both games.

at 28mm the Victory Force spacefarers could pass easily for Starfleet/marines. But only human figs.
