Yes, the trick is finding the more flexible players, and leaving the hard core SFB purists to their own devices. Fortunately the online version of the game makes that a lot easier these days but you do have to be willing to find and train new players and be flexible yourself.

Then one can simply bypass the cranky veteran SFB purists and bypass all the controversy as well. Yea, it means resorting to using 'house rules' but not much other choice if one wants to try and modernize SFB.
