TK7

Post by wedge_hammersteel »

I am doing my own version of a TK7. Based a little off of the TK5.

Which looks better? The right or the left. I left the neck attachment on the one on the right.

From both an aesthetic and structural standpoint, I prefer the one on the left.

I like the one on the left too. I only have one pair of engines right now. If I can find another pair, I might complete and paint both and post more pictures.

Burt. I would definitely go with the one on the left.

I'm certainly not an expert on Klingon affairs, but I would think that if a D7 boom were to seperate from the hull, then the entire boom... including the neck piece left on the right-hand photo would seperate.

Not only that, the left-hand version will be much more stable on the playing surface.

I'll say left too. The right one just seems to stick out too far. Plus, that neck just seems like a structural weak point, both on the table and in universe.

OGOPTIMUS, actually, both tholian modules are pretty secure after supergluing.

Based on what scoutdad, et al, mentioned, I will go with the one on the left. I wasnt sure what parts of the Klingon ship are considered "boom material" on seperation.

I will post a pic in a day or two.

Another issue

When the Tholians created the TK5, did they leave the Klingon back half with klingon paint or did they repaint it to match their other ships?

I planned to paint my mini with Klingon colors for the back half and tholian colors for the front half.

I don't recall reading anything about it one way or the other. It could look cool either way.

Hmmm... good question.

Since Tholians use infra-red visible paint for their symbols / hull numbers, would you even be able to tell (in the visible spectrum, that is) if they had painted the ship?

This was my take on the TK5. I assumed a constant hull color, and used the same yellow I use on Tholian engines for the F-5 engine "vents". I kitbashed this thing way back in 2001 or so, but it still stands up OK.

Steve, if no one else has spoke up already... I have both an F5 and a Tholian PC sitting in my "to be painting" area.

I can hack them up and get you a TK5 by the end of this week.

wedge, do you mind if I try a paintshop pro rendition of that mini? I want to try something out..

I like the left but it is missing something, the right is okay but is too long..

can I manipulate the image just a bit and repost a link to it here??

Sure, go ahead.

I did mine from a Klingon D-7 body and a Neo-tholian front. It was easier to stick a neo-tholian front on the Klingon body than cutting a tholian PC to fit. Plus, The Neo-tholian front was too large to connect to a F5 body so I chose a D7.

scoutdad, I would like to see that mini. SWO's looks good but it appears to be 75% tholian and 25% klingon while the SSD looks to be closer to 50/50.
