Revamped Hydran Ranger

Post by AdamTurner »

My new Hydran Ranger model. I've modeled more detail into it and made the it more modular for easy kitbashing into similar Hydran ships, such as the Iroquois, Traveler, etc.

Not "Traveler"; "Tartar". There is no Traveler. :)

BTW, where are the launch tube openings? It has lots. Do they have panel doors that keep them hidden?

Oops, my bad.

As for the launch tubes, you can see the three rear ones on the back of the ship, they are the roughly hexagonal glowing ports on the bottom of the main hull, underneath the little upside down awning. The structure directly beneath it is the regular shuttlebay door. The other six launch tubes are, unfortunately, not terribly visible in these shots. They are on the thin side rim of the ship, situated close behind the main bulk of the forward hull.

Thanks guys!

Ah, where you can see the pairs of white running lights. Does give you a feel for the scale of a fighter to its mothership.

I like the hull-paneling. It helps give the model a sense of scale and mass.

I also really like the engines - the details and lighting inside the "hollow" aft-end are really cool.

I don't want to make too many posts for the different ships (in hopes of not bringing back certain bad memories), I'll say first I like them all. But secondly, I love this one second to only the Fed CA (If you didn't see that one coming, you haven't been here very long). The Engines are Beatiful, the shapes are such nice and straight lines... I love shapes. It would look just Majestic if you cave it a star/nebula background

OK, I see them now. I had just thought they would have been bigger. My bad.

I thought the launch tubes would be in the sloping sides of the upper hull. (I guess I thought the fighters would be launching "uphill". )

Say, Adam, one thing I hadn't noticed until I saw one of your Squadron Box covers with Hydrans and Kzintis flying against Lyrans: Do Hydran ships not have windows? I guess that would make sense; living on fog-shrouded gas giants, they wouldn't have a tradition of seeing stars, and many might even have psychological problems with an unobstructed view that goes for miles and miles (and miles and miles and...)
