FC for kids?

Pinecone - When did you start playing FC and how did you get started?
I don't want to put any sort of pressure on my 8 yr old, that'll take the fun out of it. But I did come across Cadet rules for SFB. There are a lot of 1 player scenarios that I was thinking of starting him off with, with my help, of course. Could those rules be converted to FC?

I think I was about 13 when I started playing SFB, but I never really got the hang of the advanced rules, and to be honest I never used some of the features like special sensors and the like, as I stopped playing for a while when I was 16 or so. FC has given me the opportunity to play on the sort of (tactical but not too complicated, full of features yet fast-paced) level I want to with the same ships and in the same universe and with mostly similar gameplay as I grew to love from playing SFB when I was younger.PallidaMors wrote:I was 15 when I started playing SFB..it took until I was 39 to figure it out.
LOL
I think I started playing about two years ago, I'm not sure. I'll ask my dad if he remebers.
I got started after I had seen Klingon border in a game store. It looked quite like a simple space battle game that me and my Dad had invented not to far back (with hexes), so it caught my eye. I went home and reasearched it on Memory Alpha (a wikipedia website devoted to star trek), and found out what it was. Then I came to this website to further reasearch it, and found the First Missions rules. Me and my dad played a game with that and had fun (Note: In that game, I played the D7! I've never played the klinks since). I asked for it as a birthday present. Then I got it. Such is the story of how I got into FC.
