The current plan is for this product to come out in April or May of 2009, containing paper B&W ship cards, scenarios, and rules. Provisional ship list:

Commando ship (NCL or DW or CL?)

Tug

Romulans
Scout

Tug

WYNs
Scout
Commando ship
Carrier
Escort
Fighters

Seltorians

I think that's about 64 ships. We might be able to include a total of 2-4 more.

Thoughts?

Besides fighters, maulers, and scout sensor rules, what other rules topics will it deal with?

Sounds awesome.

I definitely want the Lyran Mauler, though. Gimme gimme! :D

Hi, im new to the boards and the game, but paper cards? Do you just mean non laminated cards or paper as the ship book is in SFB?

Thanks.

It's going to be non-laminated paper, black and white, as in Briefing #1.

Yeah just to clarify, if you don't have Briefing 1. It's going to be like . . the ships will look like the ship cards already in the game, but they'll just be B&W within the book (so the "SSD"s will look like Federation Commander SSDs/shipcards not SFB SSDs). So to use them you'll have to photocopy them, or alternatively photocopy and laminate them yourself. Some of the ships are also already in the Communiques, so you could print those out and laminate where available. Though, I think the Federation Tug and Scout will eventually get the proper card treatment in Booster 90 whenever that comes out.

On the other site, I basically said this:
- I completely agree that the Lyran STT needs to be included.
- If these are tugs (as opposed to LTTs), then the Feds don't get one, as it will be in Booster 91.
- If these are LTTs, then the Tholians, Seltorians, and WYN get one, too.
- I think the scouts should be CWS, not DWS, based on how I see war fleets made here. (The DWS would just blow up in the beginning of the fight.)
- I think that the commando ship should be based on the CW hull, for the same reason.
- I like the idea of using DWE escorts instead of CWE escorts. That lets one of the variants be based on the DW, and the DW is more likely to survive than the other two variants (which are likely the key to victory in a scenario, and therefore prime targets).
- I like the idea of using CVS class carriers, as opposed to some other size.

I am concerned, however, that there has been no response to the two carriers included in CL37 and therefore have no idea if a 12 fighter carrier is a game breaker or not.

The plan would be to include both squadron and fleet cards. They could be side by side or back to back, whatever you guys would prefer.

I like the ship selection and vote for back-to-back.

If the ships are btb will we get two of the same ship on the front and back or two different ones per page?

I don't have CL37, but are those SSD's the same as the ones SVC posted to the Discus board roughly 2 years ago? I don't have the original files, but found my printouts of those (and can give them a run-through if they're the same).

As to how the cards are printed: I also prefer b-t-b, for the simple reason that I rarely play fleet scale battles.

Looking at some of your questions, how about these carriers:
Tholian: NCV (from J2)
Hydran Ragnar (from J2)
Romulan Firehawk-B (from R10)

The Romulans are kinda weird, since most have oversized squadrons. Consequently, you might have to do the Firehawk-B, but then reduce the fighter count to 12 (from its original 16).

Are you planning on doing the LTTs in a different venue? If not, you could add the Fed LTT to give them a tug unit, too.

I like your use of the "older" ships for the commando ships. That is a nice touch.

Finally (for this post), I would like to suggest using the Kzinti DWE instead of the FKE. The FKE is much smaller than just about any of the other escorts and I think the DWE is a better fit.

Probably.

For the fighters, take the F-18, F-15, or Z-Y, leaving only the type-I drones (and deleting all type-VI and type-III drones). All are speed 16 and can fire one drone per turn.

You can either fire the drones normally, or use the "direct-fire" option from CL37 (which I am not summarizing here). Fighters must be at 8 hexes or less to fire their drones.
