(4A4) bonuses do not stack with the cloak. If a ship is under cloak and its cloak is voided, but it also possesses a stealth bonus under (4A4), does the stealth bonus still apply? To pick an example at random, let's assume it's a Frax sub which is damaged by entering an asteroid hex, voiding the cloak for one impulse. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

Actually, I am not seeing anywhere that says that (4A4) penalties don't apply when a ship is cloaked. And I checked both (4A4) and (5P). However, that shouldn't be a huge deal normally, as a cloaked ship cannot use Evasive Maneuvers, and a stealth bonus doesn't apply while cloaked. On the other hand, it would appear that penalties for firing through asteroids do apply when firing at a cloaked ship.
As for the random example, rule (5P3d) is quite clear: a voided cloak still imposes all of the restrictions for using cloak. So, our hypothetical Frax sub would not gain the benefit of its stealth coating under a voided cloak. (The same would be true of an Orion.) In other words, our friendly sub had better not take damage from asteroids when cloaked, or it will be extremely vulnerable for that impulse of voiding. _________________
