Federation Commander

Hey y'all,

I recently bought the FC Rules Reference book as a PDF (sixth edition currently; specifically from DrivethruRPG) and wanted to ask if there will be a seventh edition given that the Gunboat Attacks module has been out for two years or if there are more products in the pipeline that make it more logical to hoof into a new edition?

(fully acknowledging that all things take time, product design is hard, and that it this last year has been a particular adventure for ADB folks health-wise, so I hope this isn't being construed as anything other than information seeking; hope you folks are doing better).

There haven't been discussions on that, but there are a handful of rules and a couple rulings that probably could justify a seventh edition. But, there are just too many other things ahead of it, and things are now just slow at ADB for the time being.

It is a good idea, and there is probably enough to make it work, but there is currently no schedule for doing it.

That is, more or less, what I figured - thanks for confirming.

I’m new to the FC Rules Reference system, and honestly, there’s a lot to learn! If there is a new version, I hope it will be more accessible to newcomers, with more tutorials or examples to make learning the rules a little easier.

If there is a seventh edition, what changes or improvements would you most like to see? Would you like to see just a small update to incorporate new content or a major rule overhaul?

What I would expect to happen (this isn't a desire, just the expected course of action) is that it will just include any updates and rulings. Examples of items that will likely be included:
- Gunboat rules.
- Reformat the Fighter rules for the future.
- Add sublight movement rules.
- Add the cloak updated rules.
- I think there are a couple more rules that have been added over time.
- Include any rulings. (I don't think there are any of these, or only a couple. I haven't finished looking things up.)
It would not be a major overhaul, but simply a relatively minor update to keep things current.

I would like to know if I can expect any specific timeline for the release of the seventh edition, or should I assume it will be quite some time before we see any updates?

We have too many jobs and projects chasing too few staff people in the office.
My time is divided between running the company and running the games.
My game time is divided between SFB, F&E, FC, and other projects.
Just now I'm trying to finish the last bits of the early bird release for F&E CIVIL WARS and the SFB ORION MASTER STARSHIP BOOK. I have also spent time on STARMADA: RUMORS OF WARS. All those should release soon; it was going to be this week but with Jean sick at home that may slip.
Once that's done and I clean up some of the messes on my desk, I'll meet with the team and decided what my next project will be. Assuming it's time for a Fed Commander project, I could either do the 7th edition rulebook or a new product like FIGHTERS ATTACK or X-SHIPS ATTACK. I think I'd rather get those two new products done so their new rules could be in the 7th Edition. Stay tuned.
