Federation Space... using Federation and Empire pieces

Hi all,

I was curious if anyone had tried to play Federation Space using the board and counters from Federation and Empire (any version).

The reason I'm asking is, I have the .pdf rule set of FS I bought online, and I have a copy of the original F&E. I'm finding F&E very hard to learn to play, and FS is super easy by comparison. I am a very casual player when it comes to the strategic games like this. I love the background and materials and the concepts of F&E, but just playing the game seems to be very confusing.

Anyhow, I'm curious if anyone else has done this or not. The maps are not identical, and the counters are not either. But it seems doable.

Alternatively, if anyone is interested in playing Federation Space on Vassal, I have the client downloaded. I play SFB Vassal on occasion.

Sincerely,

Ken

Hi !

I've had the same idea, just haven't yet gotten around to implementation. Am also thinking of adapting Risk and or Diplomacy to F&E.

Cheers !

Not quite. Allow me to clarify even if it means disappointing lots of people. This is not new information.

ADB has no plans to do "F&E Risk" and never did. That project is often talked about on the BBS and fan pages but it was never an ADB project, and it's not one we've ever spent any time thinking about. We haven't even read the fan discussions of this fan idea. Maybe we should, but we don't have enough time for what's on the list now, and the market for Milton-Bradley games like Risk demands production values we cannot even dream about.

Federation Admiral is a campaign system, not a simplified strategic game. It will actually be more complicated than F&E.

Klingon Invasion/Romulan Invasion are theoretical concepts for "the FC version of F&E". Other than the idea that we'd use an F&E map without hexes but using the province boundaries (NZ provinces would be 3 hexes not 6 so you cannot use them as a massive lateral shift) zero work has been done on this idea.

I made a F&E province map. I tried to chop up the NZ into three-hex bites but found that it worked better with two-hex bits. I'll send you a copy.

No thanks. Easy enough to do my own. Having not seen the rest of the game you don't know if 2 or 3 or 4 works best. Neither do I.

Hi Ken,

I haven't tried combining Federation Space with the counters from Federation and Empire, but it sounds like an interesting idea! While the maps and counters differ, your casual approach might make it fun. If you’re looking for a simpler experience, Federation Space is definitely a good choice. Also, I'd be interested in playing on Vassal—let me know if you set up a game!
