It's an idea we should look into. Could make it a joint thing with prime directive RPGs

I'd probably buy some just to paint and collect. Actually, it might get me to give the RPG a try, too. :)

I remember seeing a website a long time ago that had little 2D paper cutouts for Federation and Klingon people. There may have been Romulans, too; I don't remember.

The name of the site was The Marvelous Mechanical Mini-Maker, or something like that.

Do you mean this website?

Yeah! That's the one. It doesn't work with any browser I have (Chrome, Firefox, or the latest IE).

I guess one could copy and paste the various images to make their own characters if one had enough time and inclination to do so.

Weird. That posted link doesn't work, but when I Google "crowstuff trek minis", is gives me a good link, one that looks EXACTLY the same as the posted link. Weird.

To clarify, are we talking about 5-minis-per-stand figures to represent the standard unit size in Star Fleet Marines (akin to the 6mm miniatures used for infantry in games like Epic: Armageddon), or larger one-mini-per-stand figures which would work for Tribbles vs. Klingons and/or the previously-mooted KRAG scale of gameplay?

No decision has been made.

Marines Miniatures

A few thoughts on Star Fleet Marines as a miniatures game.
The current rules would convert to miniatures pretty easily.

There are already a number of lines of 6mm (1/300) scale grav tanks and associated infantry that would fill the bill for the game's armor. Although I find myself wanting some of the Klingon and Romulan armor I have seen drawn! Shapeways might be an option here, but it is pricey.

SFB fighters and shuttles could be used with the game with no modifications. The scale would be off a bit, but this is usually not an issue for air support.

Infantry, now THERE is a challenge. Humanoid infantry is not a major problem as there are a number of manufacturers out there that already make science fiction infantry that would mesh will as Klingon Humanoids, Romulans, or Humans. I think that there might even be a couple making lines of feline warriors that would work as Kzinti/Lyrans. The real challenge comes in modeling the Heavy Klingon ground troops, Hydrans, Seltorians, Tholians and some others. Currently, there are no models out there for these races, but there are folks who might make them if they could sell them as part of other sci fi lines (no throwing tomatoes please!).

A compromise might be full color, 1" counters with images of the various types of troops and races. This provides a stackable, good looking item that can be used on tabletop or oversized mapboard and could be either printed by SFB and distributed, printed on demand, or sold as a pdf that customers could print and mount on heavy backing. You might even consider selling an oversized set of counters in pdf that players could print and mount. When mounted on foam core this makes a great heavy counter material for games of this scale.

RPG Miniatures
These are a whole different proposition. These would have to be in either 15mm or 25mm scale to match this level of play. Probably oot really something to be used as a unit in SFB Marines.

Would it be out of the question to suggest that PDFs be made showing a color image of an individual with the same image upsidedown right above it? When printed it could be folded at the top of the head so that the image is seen from both sides. If a little extra tab material is left at the bottom, it could be folded outward to form a base so the figure could stand up. A small piece of tape across the bottom or a spot of glue on the inside between the two sides would hold them together. It could be printed on cardstock for extra support.

I'm not suggesting ADB do this and take away from their valuable time they spend on other things that are more profitable, but perhaps some independent artist-types could give it a whirl. Surely there are enough images available for the artist-types to get a good idea of what the various types of aliens should look like.

Another thought. If more of a 3D look is desired, 4 images could be made for each figure: front, back, sides. Then a small box could be fashioned that gives an appropriate view from any side.

Actually, thinking about it, a single 15mm miniature could stand in for a team. I do something similar for Squad Leader on the ASL Deluxe (Large Hex) boards.

So if you had these and then Grav tanks in 6mm along with the shuttles, doing a game in miniature becomes more doable.

I've started collecting Reaper Miniatures 10mm line of minis for their game C.A.V. It's a mechs game, but with lots of infantry and vehicles -- all of which I find to be very good proxies for SFM units.

Their newer size bases are designed to work with a wide variety of terrain maps from other games (BattleTech, Leviathans, Crimson Skies).
