Ship for a base rush

I am looking for the best ship for a purpose, and if the ship is not in FC, I was lent a bunch of SFB books so I might be able to convert it. Here is what I want:

A ship to help capture a base. It should have lots of marines and lots of transporters. Offensive capability can be low. I want to escort it into an attack on a base, let my fleet get a shield down, then let the marines rush the base for a takeover.

Any suggestions?

Almost any Seltorain ship... A Klingon D6G commander cruiser, heck - nearly any commando cruiser fits the bill (See Module M for those)

couldn't you dock with the base and unload everyone?

Im thinking a bunch of H&Rs as well. Transporters rock. I would think their abilities would be better exploited by then.

I get it. H&Rs are fun. I killed a web caster with one today :)

I guess the question is how to handle large groups of transporters in FCOL. In SFB, they cost 1/5 energy per transporter. In FC its 1 movement point to power all transporters. Does that mean 7? 10?

I realize these ships will probably never make it to FC, so this would be a just for fun house rule thing. Any thoughts?

As is, the rules declare 1 movement cost of enrgy for all transporters.

Although, if Commando ships ever enter the fray, I could see a special exception so that it's two spaces of movement to power all transporters.

The limit on docking with the base is that you will only be transporting six Marine squads per turn by that method. A BATS has 30 Marine squads, and will be inflicting ~11.5 casualties per turn on average. If you feed your Marines in piecemeal they will be slaughtered. They will wear down the base's defenders, slowly, but you may run out of Marines before he does. And your Commando ship will be at Range 0 to the base while you do that.

So you'd need to breach a shield, use directed fire in lots of small volleys to knock out weapons, then dock as many ships as you can to the base while beaming as many Marines aboard as you can. Once you have more Marines aboard the base than he does, time is on your side.

Sorry if my question appears naïve, but because out there we have a very few products, i wonder were do you find all these ships variants?

Are they paper-print ships somewhere?
Are they laminated color card in a specific booster i missed?

thx

The original poster said, "if the ship is not in FC, I was lent a bunch of SFB books ..." None of the mentioned troop ships (D6G, CMC, COV) are in FC at this point. They are all SFB ships.

Julien:
the Star Fleet Battles game has well over 2,000 different ships available to it... only a small fraction of which have been brought into FC.

Captains Log #37 and #38 have "project z" articles by Mike West. Its how to convert ships from SFB into FC in both squadron and fleet scales. However, it only covers so much. Some rules have never been converted to FC, which eliminates some ships from being ported.

Both the articles can be found at the bottom of this page:

http://www.starfleetgames.com/fc/

I unsed this to convert the Juggernaught Fleet in the last CL to FC.

I think I'll stick a question like this in the SFB forum next time. It leads to too much confusion.
