Those photons must have been proximities. It sure took enough of them to destroy it.
Of course, trying to connect anything in the SFU with ST film is almost useless. Not only is the timeline different, but in film the writers do whatever they need to do to make a good story.

That's true, didn't really think about the fact that you can fire on cloaked ships in FC, although I knew you could.
Really, I'd like to see a ship like that made. (I do think FC can make that ship.)
It'd be ridiculously overpowered for a Bird of Prey, but under FC rules a Heavy Cruiser could take them.

With FC cloak rules, you add 4 to range and lose 50% of damage ---
Can see where it would take quite a few photons to disable a Bird of Prey ---
Thats why they needed the tracking head on the one that did the final damage ---

Odd how no-one thought of that cloak-penetrating seeking head before, or ever used it since, isn't it?
The spaceship moves at the speed of the plot...

The tracking head was on the first one that hit. All the others simply targeted the blast.

A heavy cruiser could beat that ship but only if it was me (USS Enterprise.)
