It does indeed.

I thought that the exponential effect was interesting. It means that while a drone cruiser (F5D or D7D) is really an escort or support ship with normal speed drones, the same ships can be primary fighters with high speed drones. In the case of the D7D, you have a heavy cruiser with no cost plasma torpedoes which give up warhead strength for longevity.

I attempted to fly a D7D in a duel against a similarly pointed Federation and lost my shirt. I wonder if things would be different with fast drones. It's worth a try. :)

And this is exactly the situation I have been talking about. It is great to say that Speed 32 drones are scenario specific if the scenario doesn't call for them, they you can't use them. What if you don't play scenarios?

I have never played a scenario and will never play a scenario. They have no interest to me. Even when I was playing SFB 20 years ago I didn't play scenarios. I just want to pick a point value and fly ships until oneside blows up or gives up.

Prior to this rule, if I asked to use Speed 32 drones, my opponent could say no because they don't exist in the game and I would have no reply other than yeah your right. Now he can't say that. He could try to say no, it is only for late war scenarios. My response will be, than this is a late war scenario after all there will be no change to his ship.

Don't get me wrong, I love speed 32 drones and I can't wait to start using them. Especially with a drone chucker with capability to control 12 drones.

As far as I understand it, if you're creating your own battle using point values (which is what I usually do too) as opposed to playing a battle out of the scenario section in the rulebook then for the purposes of the "Late Years Drones" rules, the battle you are fighting isn't a "scenario" and so those rules don't apply.

That would mean that if you didn't want to use speed-32 drones you could simply veto the idea - as SVC said, there is no "enabling rule" to allow you to use them outside of a fixed scenario, and if you want to use them by mutual consent then you're technically making up your own rules. If I'm right about that, speed-32 drones don't "exist" as such in the game *except* for the set scenarios (from the rulebook) in which they do, and so your opponent could still say "no you can't have them, because they don't exist in the game".

That said, you could still use speed-32 drones in a battle you make up, but *only* if both players agree, as it would technically be using a rule which is not part of Federation Commander proper.

Just try and have fun with the new rule. If you start regularly getting into situations in which .5 point speed 32 drones are grossly overpowered, then do some playtest reports and send them to ADB.
