Some batches will, some won't.
This time, the two things we NEED to print are F&E 2010 (double) and FCHA (single). Which gave us some choices.
Print them together and get free backside asteroids (better than backside hemoroids, I guess).
Print them separately and actually pay a lot more money.
Print each of them separately combined with other products that are not ready to print, which means delaying these products and probably printing sheets with errors in them.
I think we picked the right choice.

The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

Remember those thin cardstock counters that used to be stapled inside the old-style Captain's Logs?
I'm a wondering if a sheet like that could be produced that would feature hexagons the same size as the hexes on the FC mapboards, but with asteroid images in them? They could have contiguous patterns or small groupings.
Players would cut them out and use sticky-tack to put them on their mapboard(s) (or use nothing at all). There would be no "counter clutter" with this method. They would fit exactly on the existing hex patterns and would be thin enough so as not to interfere with moving ship counters or minis around over them.
Just an idea...
I guess a guy could do it himself using photopaper. It would be thin enough, yet sturdy. It sure would take a lot of ink, though.

Sandpaper gets the job done, but makes for a lot of friction.
