In some games I ran, when some players want to explode their ships, I had them roll two dice. If they got 1-3 or 1-4 (my memory is fuzzy), 1-2 for Klingons because of the slave crews, the ship exploded, but anything else would cause the crew to mutiny and join the *other* fleet. That usually made them think twice about trying any dirty tactics like exploding directly under an enemy ship.
Perhaps a rule like this would prevent abuse in other groups?
