I'm a GURPS [/b] guy and I have been for decades. I just can't stand D20 , having tried it for Deadlands (blah), Heavy Gear (egads that sucked) and Mutants and Masterminds (hey, what do you know, that actually worked ). But, I'm a GURPS [/b] guy, so I highly recommend it. (I'm also Mark Skarr, the ...

Secondly, and really more importantly to me, for whatever reason the e23 cards are not tournament legal. I have no idea why this decision was made, but it was and that is the primary reason I own none of the e23 card packs.
* :shock: DERR! :? *

Really? That sucks. Not that I plan on playing in ...

How do you think the Gorn ship got away in the TOS episode Arena???
I dunno. The author said so?

I will take the range-8 shot at rear shields when flying a Fed, particularly if it is near the end of the turn, esp against a Klingon with their weak shields and fragile hulls. Likewise an Orion ...

I feel like a complete doofus over this. I'm a huge GURPS [/b] guy, but never noticed the FC/SFB stuff at e23 until the other day when I saw someone, here, talk about the Reference Rulebook . Needless to say, the moment after I saw that post, I went and bought the RR.

I've picked up the Reference ...

The last three posts are exactly my problem. It's very much putting all your eggs in one basket. If you hit with your photons, you, very likely, have one less enemy to worry about. If you miss with your photons, you, very likely, have an enraged target at point-blank range ready to introduce you to ...

May I suggest you play with and against every race in the game a few times?
Working on that, but I'm limited by both opponents (not that many around here) and ship cards (but I'm collecting more).

At Range 8 (not a particularly ideal situation) a Fed CC will do 13 from phasers + 16 per photon ...

I do think that in general, before denouncing a weapon or a rule, we ought first to question our undestanding of the rules, and then the rightness of our tactics.
And this is why I'm here. I'm saying what I've seen and what I see, and am asking for people to tell me, in a defensible way, why I'm ...

Consider this. Why would a fleet sit in open space and just take a pounding?
Because if you're defending a stationary target, a fixed, small map makes no sense. Your attackers know where the target is and can always, continuously make strikes on it. If you let them retreat, they can repair and ...

Mark, you seem to have misunderstood the rules. It doesn't take four turns to overload your photons. Overload energy can be added on either of the arming turns, or afterwards too.
Aha, okay, that's something I misread. That goes a long way to correct the problem. As I said, I wanted to know where ...

Much as it bugs me when I have to do it myself, I might suggest you probably have to write the post afresh...

Grumble-grumble-grumble
Mutiny-mutiny-mutiny

I'll have to see about that when I get home, then . . . which will be in 12 hours or so.

Suffice it to say, I agree with what you, Nerroth ...

Mark, sometimes the board acts oddly if you try to enter in characters that it doesn't like (dipthongs, Greek letters, etc). If you can edit whatever character is just after the point your entry is being cropped, that might help get the rest in.

I've got a 1/2 symbol in, but down a ways, and it ...

I'm going to try breaking my post up, and seeing if it'll take.

ETA5: I keep trying to actually put my post in, but it won't take it. I can edit it, but if I put my post in, it deletes it. It's censorship! (It isn't, I know that, I'm being facetious)

What is good about the Photon: 16 points of damage in one hit.
At a range where you'd already likely taken 24+ points from another weapon. Sure a single-outlay of 16 points is massive (akin to an Autocannon 20 from BattleTech ), but just as ineffective outside of anything approaching an ideal ...
