Is this still going on? I live over in Tampa, but I might make a trip of it. Been awhile since I've had a game.

Also:
How's the store? Not much in the way of quality tabletop game stores this way, that I've been able to find.

Great space battle sim system for relatively quick battles with small numbers of ships. Time and overhead magnifys logarithmically as you add ships. Lacks consistently balanced scenarios (or even inconsistently).

Just so I can make sure I've wrapped my pee brain around this...

Fire down the hex spine of a planet hex (of any size planet) is open, fire through a planet hex (of any size planet) is not (even if it doesn't touch the 'planet art').

Did I get that right?

Mojo,

I would suggest that rather than competing in the quote war that seems to be ensuing, that you instead provide the requested analysis for why your system is better. You are not going to convince anyone with your subjective personal opinions that is the vast majority of your posts (as is true ...

Skip points take too long to blow up a ship. You need to try the alternate method of damage allocation.

If you go to allocate damage and both the primary system and secondary system are destroyed, the ship will take a frame damage box.

I prefer to stick with the method in the RB. And the games I ...

Just for the record, are you referring to the actual Origins tournament rules where you need to score 150 pts and win by 30 or your house tournament rules where you can get a 3.3 pt victory because all ships scored a tiny bit of internal damage to each other?

Just to point out the obvious... If ...

I'm not opposed to the way you modify points, but your balancing methodology is extreme, and hampers the larger fleet more than merely applying damage. It also limits their options in battle (specifically manuever options, unless you evenly divide damage on all shields). And... if I knew this was ...

Post right above mine.

I wasn't aware of the 30 point difference nor the min point requirement. So not so much of an issue for the Tourney rules. It is however a problem I've noticed in General Meeting engagements that the group I'm apart of plays somewhat commonly, where the 30 point ...

His post directly above mine.

I'm not saying that that you (the figurative) should aim for the min point value. I am suggesting that aiming mid range will put you below the vast majority of fleets (say... aim for 435-440) with a lower bar to reach for (forcing your opponent to achieve more ...

But a fleet with a larger BPV should have more ...

You can not compare the direct fire potential of a Direct Fire Fleet to a Plasma fleet (it's like comparing the direct fire potential of a CA to a Drone CA). It doesn't work, and is only indicative of what will happen if the Plasma fleet makes a mistake. The plasma fleet does not want to have that ...

I play Advanced Squad Leader, and this is a question that scenario designers always ask themselves. In practice, it tends to balance toward whatever skill level the playtest groups that the designer can wrangle up, operate at. :D

I play ASL too, and comparing the two games is like comparing night ...

I bow to your obvious superior competancy and look forward to the day we are able to play, so that I may learn from your superior game.

If you really think it was competent play to turn away from 3 PL-F launched at 14 hexes, we really don't have any basis for discussion.

Nice. I disagree as ...
