For your W&N oil washes, what did you use to cut the oils? Terp? Also, you probably sealed the model before the wash was applied. What did you use to seal the model?

Hi Rick, I am sure you are very familiar with all of the procedures described below, but I decided to provide a detailed response ...

Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed looking at all your miniatures, especially the Alunda, Kzinti, Hydran, early ISC, and camouflaged vessels. Lyrans and Orions always seem to inspire fun paint schemes.

Based on the miniatures I have owned and built, my favorite is the plastic Federation CA. The quality, fine detail, and precise shape surpasses all other miniatures. The plastic medium takes paint better than metal and makes it easier to perform conversions. Finally, it costs less than comparable ...

Now I have to Pine sol my figs again and start over! incredible work!! :)

Thank you very, very much but oh my gosh, don't do that! I'm sure your miniatures look great right now. I highly recommend taking one ship (perhaps a new, unpainted one), building and painting it the best you can ...

Thank you for posting pictures of all your wonderful creations. I returned to building miniatures about 6 months ago and continue to seek inspiration for my own projects. There's lots of that here!

I see you used plastic sheet and rod to build and modify most of your ships. For the more complex ...

My apologies. I worked on my club's website this evening and renamed all the pages in that area. I've corrected the link in my original post.

Since drones operate in space and have no need for stabilizing or directional fins, I imagine them as naked warp engines with a guidance system and warhead at the front.

With goals of fast, easy, and cheap production, how about using round styrene rod with a collar (hollow rod stock slipped over ...

I'm another guy coming at this hobby from more of a scale-model background, but I've found those skills have served me well. I spend as much time on the starshipmodeler.com boards as here, mostly to pick up new tricks for painting and sculpting.

Hi djdood,

The skills definitely translate. I ...

Doug, did you sand down all the raised panel lines on your Federation ships?

Hi Rick,

I did not sand off the panel lines. Photography tends to tone down small details and converting to a medium grade .jpg file evens things out. This also makes the finish look better than it actually is. In some ...

Wow. Thanks to all of you for the very nice comments. I tend to second guess my work so all the positive feedback came as a pleasant surprise. I've seen some very, very good starships in this forum and aspire to reach those levels.

Three years ago I was not very good. To get where I am took a lot ...

Starships Present and Past

I started playing Star Fleet Battles in 1984 and now play Federation Commander on occasion. From very early on I collected a miniature here and there but rarely built or painted them. About two years ago I returned to model building. Late last fall I rediscovered my SFB miniature stash and began ...

It's a matter of cost, time and likely financial return. I've got over 200 SFB/FC minis - if they were re-mastered, am I going to buy and paint them all over again?

The line of minitures is just to big now to go back and refit them all.

Just to be clear, I would like to see more surface detail ...

As a person who builds, paints, and collects SFB minis for themselves, I would also like to see much more variety and especially detail in the ship designs.

I understand that, for game reasons, the starships of a given race must share similar characteristics. I also understand that those ...
