Look at it this way - it'll never be as good as ftf, but apart from that it's pretty good and it's waaaaaay better than no FC at all :)

That's been my assumption - in fact if you assign the other ship to 'other' player, you can shoot at it. You just can't look at that ship now to allocate the damage! I think you really need two players to make it work :)

Glad I could help! I think it was my buddy's firewall or other spam filter that was preventing him from connecting; he turned it off and he can now get on fine.

See you around the galaxy!

Yes, if you kick off the client it will look like SFB online and you even have to enter/sign-in under 'SFB Online - Demo Mode' (or at least I do). Once it fires up, go to the top left under 'Game' and select new game. That should give you the option to play FC, as well as F&E, Star Fleet Warlord and ...

I believe you have to download the SFB Online client, then once you do that there's an option to play FC with it. I know, it's about as clear as mud, but once you download the SFB client and fire it up, when you click 'start new game' Federation Commander is an option.

Certainly the documentation ...

You know the demo version is free, and lets you fight a Fleet Scale Fed CA against a Klingon D7, right? Might be the best way to at least check you can both connect etc. Did you download the example videos? They helped me a lot to get things going, even if I was just tooling around with it solo.

The other problem is, much like James Bond's gadgets, the concept is used once and then never used again. In fact I believe the beaming through shields concept is also used in the TNG episode where O'Brien's former captain is convinced the Cardassians are preparing for war; they technobabble it away ...

So yeah, the rear-firing photons are a potential conflict with TOS. The first time we see them on-screen within the Star Trek continuity is in "Encounter at Farpoint".

Khan would like a word with you. :)

And then there's those Klingon ships in the Motion Picture.

Cheers

Derek

We got to them ...

Actually I don't mind whether it's a photon launcher or something else, but whatever it is it looks like it should be a weapon :D

Well, I always thought that the hole in the front of the klingon ship was a photons launcher...

It was never made clear in TOS. In fact, the only time any weapon fire was seen from a D7 hull was the Troyus episode with the green bolts from the naceles. SFB assumed (and I would guess this was ...

Plus in ST:TMP we see the Klingon cruisers in the beginning (awesome) sequence fire with rear-mounted torps. Of course, they're Klingons and not Feds, but the precedent is there.

So if you hit one with a good strike, say 30+ points of damage, do you pretend to take off five for the shield then pretend to take 25 internals and have him roll for them all? What if he asks to see what you have left? How do you record what damage you *actually* take (on another card, I assume ...
