Too bad they couldn't sell a Nexus CD like the old Dragon magazine CD so that newcomers could get ahold of the issues without the hassle of e-bay.

(Heck, I also have a White Dwarf CD and Ares magazine CD. It's the best idea ever! I wish all of the old magazines from "the day" were put on CD so I ...

Also well-wishes from me.

By the way, I noticed that most of your auctions were without photos. For books that might not matter so much, but for minis it would be nice to see pictures of them.

Re: Chicago Area Players

Would there be any players in the Chicago region that would want to meet to play Fed Commander (or SFB)?
I do live near Chicago and sometimes go to visit Games Plus in Mt Prospect. I used to play SFB years ago but haven't played FC yet. Maybe I can stop in some time in the summer to watch a game ...

I think I have a complete set, and if you still need info I'd be willing to help out as well.

I had the whole set at one time and got rid of them. Then I bought issues 1-16 on e-bay, which I thought was all of them but someone told me that there were 18. Can anyone confirm the number of issues?

I just bought a couple of sets but haven't gotten them yet. I hadn't thought at all about card storage, but your boxes seem pretty neat so I'll have to try my hand at making some.

errata in old Nexus and Captains Logs magazines to try and patch the leaks
Hmm. Guess I'll have to dust off my copies of Nexus to see how much errata there is, and how severe the "fix".

I could just play my other editions, but I was hoping that the pocket edition would have the simplicity I'm ...

I haven't played much SFB recently, but my gripe with the game has always been that it is too rules intensive, so when we play it's mostly without many of the cool options.

That' part of what interests me in Federation Commander, which I plan on trying some time soon. (When I can get my out-of-town ...

Far be it from me to say anything other than "oh, just buy everything" but if you want to "go cheap" you could download the free first missions book and buy booster 91 and download some ships from the Commander's Circle and play for a while.
I appreciate the information. I figure if I start off ...

Thanks for all of the replies. Clearly my question was more complex than I thought.

Sounds like I need to focus on Booster 91 and Squadron Box 91 for the Federation ships and then pick some basic Klingon and Romulan ships from there.

At least this gives me a bit more of a plan... 8)

To springboard off of my own post, I would be looking mostly for ships that are "canon" TOS -- in other words the Romulan Bird of Prey, along with Klingon D6, D7, C8, and C9 (I think).

Is there a single product that has SSDs for just these ships or does one have to pick up several supplements in ...

Franz Joseph expansion

Pardon if I get this wrong, becasue I'm more of a SFB guy but have been thinking of upgrading to FC.

I was in a game store the other day and saw something which was called the "Franz Joseph expansion" or some such, and I understand it to be SSDs based on the old Star Fleet Technical manual from the ...

Once upon a time, I was trying to create a "lite" version of F&E but ran into some major problems and dropped the entire idea.
By the way -- this is a great idea and I loved reading that post, even if it was a FC essay instead of one on F&E. :D

I'd be curious to see what sorts of problems you ...

Task Force Game #4

I believe that the original edition of Star Fleet Battles was marketed as a "pocket game" or "microgame" called Star Fleet Battles: Task Force Game #4 and came in a ziploc bag as a small booklet and a bunch of counters.

Obviously, this version would be a lot simpler than later editions since it was ...
