Re: Ship selection

Is there any reason why anyone, given the choice, would take a D7 over a D5W?

The D5W has heavier shielding, better disruptor arcs and an extra ADD for a minor 10-point BPV difference.

I don't know if this would be a choice, but in SFB the D7 came out a number of years before D5W (New Heavy ...

FC Ship Class Descriptions

Hello! I asked the question on the SFB Legacy board but I think it would be interesting to hear what some players here think . . .

What is the role of each ship class in FedCom? For example: what does a generic frigate do/what is its mission? Does it operate in a fleet or on its own -- and if both ...

I'm not sure in the SFU, but in the Animated Trek episode that they're in, they are called the kuh-ZIN (and this would probably work out to kuh-ZIN-ti, but I don't remember if they were called Kzinti or only Kzin in the episode).

The pictures aren't all the clearest, but there are lots of nice line illustrations at the SFB painting guide index: http://www.starfleetgames.com/miniatures.shtml#guide

There are also some more line drawings here, but the SFB designs are mixed together will other Trek designs:

Recently, I've had much better success when I just fire them anyway, even if my range isn't right. I get lucky often enough with a couple decent rolls and then it starts turning into my game. Although Saber Dancing is certainly a viable tactic, a couple decent hits from a couple lucky photon salvos ...

Thanks for the replies all!

I looked up RTV silicone molding, and there were a few helpful Youtube videos that helped me visualize the process. The most simple process seemed to be making making a mold by pouring the silicone mix into a box holding the master, and then cutting the cured mold into ...

Casting

Hello,

I haven't done any work with miniatures, but I was recently messing around with casting and was wondering if anyone has tried casting their own minis. Looking at some metal melting point charts, it seems that zinc melts at a relatively low temperature, is safe, and is cheap (modern pennies ...

This is a beauty, great angle for all the ships. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that R-torp . . .

Although it isn't FJ, I always took the small, fast, phaser-armed Orion ship from "Journey to Babel" to be the Orion Light Raider, armed with ph-1 in the option mounts.

I love the Seahawk too . . . such a great little ship for its size.

Oooh yes, a C7 would be very nice.

But if it had to be one ship for me, mine would be the F5. There's just something about it. . . it's such a regular ship that it has chutzpah.

Slightly off-topic, but what about the Star Trek Micro Machines? Each is about 2-3 inches long.
