I've never really had enough space for a 6'x4' gaming table, with the addition of the 7000 scale miniatures and the suggestion that you could play using centimeters instead of inches. A 72cm x 48cm gaming board is certainly doable.

Right now I've got a white border marking off the "gaming" area of the board, i've painted on stars and some whatnot for background, and plan on adding grid lines every 6cm to help mark off deployment zones and whatnot.

Plan on painting up some 7000 scale minis play with later on. Also some planets, asteroids, black holes and whatnot for terrain features.

Would this be to play A Call to Arms Star Fleet?

Yes, indeed. The other games use hex maps, right? Or at least.. have not as well translated "free movement & measurement" rules as ACTA does.

It would take about five minutes to change ACTA to hexes. I'm just sayin'...

Well, the background for the map is certainly quite beautiful.

If you're interested, there are adapters on ADB's Shapeways page to convert the 1/2-inch hexagonal bases of the 1/7000-scale minis (made to fit a standard 5/8" hex SFB map) into the larger 1-inch hex stand-base size common on many minis and also to a round base compatible with ACTA-SF.

Managed to "finish" my board recently, or rather. I'm satisfied with it as it is even though there's a lot more I feel like I could do.

Painted the grid lines, glued some cork board to the bottom to keep it from sliding around on tables. Sprayed the top layer with a gloss coat finish and then a matte finish.

Learned some interesting things about the process, thinking about how I might do it differently if/when I make a second board.
