I haven't played SFB since 1987, I am rather curious to find out if freighters & the protecting of convoys or just small freighter fleets has been incorporated into the game at all? Say with production worlds & supply basses, especially in an expanded universe game over just a quick campaign.

SFB (and FC, ACTA, Starmada) is a tactical game but does included convoy escort scenarios.

The kind of "production worlds & supply basses, especially in an expanded universe game" isn't reflected in a tactical game and in a strategic game (F&E) is subsumed into the economic system because few if any players want to be bothered with such things. To some extent there is some faint reflection of that in Federation Admiral (or will be when it's finished) but not to that kind of extent.

Federation Admiral is a forthcoming campaign generation system, to be usable with all the SFU tactical games.

It's been in development for a while and had issues needing ironing out (and then got further disrupted by health issues). I'm sure it's coming, in its due time.
