I just got my copy of CL 49, and I was wondering at the background of this ship. Thanks,

Not really any background. Module R7 describes it as a design in competition with the design that became the Condor, but lists it as unbuilt.
CL 24 has a history of the "Heavy Hawks," says attempts to push the SparrowHawk/FireHawk to a larger class would have worked if the Romulan budget had allowed. _________________ --

The main advantage the DemonHawk would have provided had it been built was its higher degree of modularity, since it can fit a pair of SparrowHawk/FireHawk modules and a single SkyHawk module. (The "default" DMH assumes the presence of a pair of Firehawk-K modules and a SkyHawk-A module.)
One (in)famous configuration noted over on the BBS is the "REDHawk", which combines a pair of SparrowHawk-E modules with a SkyHawk-C module. These allow the ship to operate two gunboat flotillas at once, while offering a quartet of special sensors with which to support them.
The REDHawk would have made for a dangerous RTN-hunter - or rather, should a future FC module add fast patrol ships to this game system, could potentially make for one here, too. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)
