A year ago I was in the hospital recovering from open-heart surgery. In my drugged up state, I couldn't deal with the round-the-clock coverage of the Boston bombing (no disrespect intended). But I needed something to focus on to keep my spirits up. One thing that helped was my stack of FC stuff that my wife brought me. Getting back to my gaming group became the carrot on the stick to keep me going. You could consider that poignant or pathetic, but it is what it is. So thanks, FC family Smile

Nothing pathetic about it.

Reading my SFU stuff is one of my favorite ways to leave my troubles behind and just relax.

Congratulations on making it through such a trauma and more health too you.

Spacecowboy,

First off, I'm glad you made it through what was, to say the least, an ordeal.

Having something that gives you joy, or at least enjoyment is what makes the journey through life a little easier. (It's what I tell my wife - my hobbies are what let me escape from stress.) If the FC universe is a place that lets you restore body and mind, then it's not pathetic at all.

Thanks for sharing that story - it reminds me that though life has it's trials and tribulations, we need to focus on what's important. (Health, family, and blowing up Hydrans.) Very Happy

Nothing wrong with turning to a hobby to reduce the tension in your life, and friends are friends, no matter if they are gaming buddies, co-workers or school mates.

In any case, glad to hear your are doing better! Very Happy

First, glad you are doing better.
Second, thank you for sharing that story.
Third, as has been said above, hobbies are there to take your mind off things and something as rich as the SFU is a great way to relieve the monotony of sitting in a hospital room for days on end. No on here is going to think it's pathetic.

I had a similar thing a couple of years ago when I was hospitalized for 11 days. My copy of GURPS Klingons arrived at my house during this time and I read it cover to cover more than once while I was there. (Of course, that was because I was medicated and couldn't remember what was in it for more than a few hours, but let's not worry about that. Smile )
