When another Empire captures and then uses part of a Klingon ship, would it be more probable that the empire would leave the Klingon paint scheme intact?
For tholian-klingon and orion-klingon? |

Its more probable they will paint it to match their own fleet color schemes. The D7H Anarchist was repainted and the OK6 Conquest was apparent repainted a couple of times. _________________ -Dal

It certainly helps with ID'ing things on the gameboard to have the same scheme on a faction, including ships they "liberated" from the other side. _________________

Two observations:
1) From the "historical" situations where the captured ship happened in the game history, they were repainted to match their new fleet's colors and schemes. Even when purchased (the Romulan Kestrels) they were repainted to match their new owner's fleet.
2) I would think it much more visually and artistically interesting to see the dichotomy of seeing a ship painted in another empire's colors. Why make a "Federation D6" or "Klingon CA" miniature, if you aren't going to make it visually distinct from its vanilla, uncaptured brethren? _________________

I would agree with all points made before. We've seen lots of D7H minis over time, and they have been repainted in Hydran colors. While I haven't seen one, I would certainly think that the aft section of the TK5 was painted to match the PC front half. Mini makers have pretty much established that Orions love to personalize their ships, so certainly that OK6 would have seen numerous paint schemes over its life.
Others like the Klingon RKL (Sparrowhawk in DSF service) are usually painted Klingon gray. The Romulan KR ships a usually painted to match Romulan colors. WYN ships purchased/captured from neighboring empires are usually painted to match the WYN colors. I have a mini of a TK2, which is a Klingon G2 captured by the Tholians and it is copper/gold.
If you're asking what is more likely, certainly repainting them to match the owner's fleet colors is the answer. If you're looking for "permission" to have a gray Orion or Tholian, try it out. Just post some pics so we can enjoy the results. _________________ Let's get DANGEROUS!

And that is a valid mission for a captured ship. However, I consider it irrelevant to the current discussion for a couple reasons:
1) It is a one-time-only task. After the task it is either destroyed (most likely) or now a known commodity. Which means that, if you keep it, you probably repaint it.
2) You don't need to repaint it for the mission. In fact, you probably don't even want to freshen the paint, as you want it to be as "original" as possible.
3) You don't need a special miniature for it. You just take an already painted Klingon ship, point to it, and say it is the ship in question. Making the whole idea moot to a discussion in a miniatures thread about painting captured ships. _________________
