With Feds my strategy is to make them respond to me. To that end get the photons partly overload and start closing. Leave enough energy to either add movement or overload the torps. If they fire at long range then kick up the speed and chase their skirts as they run a way. If they are dumb enough to close then let them come and use their energy. I almost never get closer than range 4 and I am not afraid to take the range 8 shot. The key to a range 8 shot is to only take it after they have turned away where you can also turn away an open the range, preferably very late in the turn. That way on the next turn you can start rearming and running as fast as possible. I will gladly trade a dented front side shield for a crushed rear shield on a Klingon. Next time we have a firing pass I will come up the other side shield at him and make him decide again to fire at range and run or come in a closer to actually due some damage to me. The problem is to make sure that the other guy does not get multiple shots on the same shield and that as the Fed you do not sit on your torps waiting for that 'perfect' shot and never fire them while you are picked apart. |

48 SFB! turns later, we dicided it was a pretty even match and reset for a smaller scenario... |
