Im confused, again. Was going through my colour charts to pick out the colours ill be using on the Fed ships when i noticed that there seems to be two types of metalic.

There are Metalic Color and Metals in Alcohol. this is in there Model range.

Whats the difference its only for little dabs here and there, as you know.

So the copper in colors is 70.999 the copper in the metals is 70.797

Thanks.

Zero.

I just checked the website...

The regular, metallics have a water base like the rest ofthe acrylics you intend to use.

the metals in alcohol have, of course an alcohol base.
If I were using enamel or laquer paint, I'd be very afraid of the alcohol based version as it would probably re-activate the solvents in the enamel an cause it to peel off... on an acrylic base... this may not be such a problem.

However, there's still the clena-up issue. The regular, acrylic metals can be thinned with water... mixed with other acrylics to obtain various tints... and clean up with water.
the alcohol based versions can not...
If it was me, I'd stick with the acrylic based versions... but that's just personal preference!

I was planning on using the normal one, i thought it might just be copper in colour rather than "shiny" but thats fine.

As ive missed there christmas cut of im going to pick my colours and put a list up on here. For people sugestions. I know its all personaly preference but we shall see what comes.

Ill also be picking up the Squadron Box 2 just after christmas.

Speak to you all soon.

Zero.

Nope. It has a copper colored base, but then it also has metallic copper flakes in it to give it a metallic sheen.

Just be sure to thoroughly mix it before use... otherwise the copper flakes settle out.

The alcohol-based metallics have much better coverage and a higher pigment density than the water-based metallics. The downsides are (1) cleaning as has been mentioned, and (2) fast drying time. If you're used to working with paints that stay wet longer, the alcohol-based metallics will surprise you. Also, you must use a palette with these as if you paint from the bottle, the fast evaporation will ruin the whole bottle. Shocked

Fast drying time: I didn't even think about that... but since I like to have time to swish, swirl, and blend my colors... this would be a serious disadvantage to me... Sad

If you want to mix colors with metallics - go for the water-based ones (and pick up some Vallejo metallic medium to dilute w/o loosing the metalic shimmer).
