Hi everyone, I'm new here and I have a lot of questions. I've seen SFB for many years, but it was always too complicated. I recently discovered Federation Commander and have played it a small handful of times but only as a "duel". I have to say that I really like the more streamlined rules. They hit a good balance for me.
I'd like to try out a scenario and the Planet Killer looks interesting, but:
1. It calls for the original ships to be 50 hexes from the Killer. I can't seem to do that with 6 map panels no matter what. Do I just shrink that number to 40, or will that unbalance the scenario in some way?
2. The Scenario says to use 350 point of ships. Is that in Fleet Scale or Squadron scale?
Thanks for any help. |

1. Really, the starting range can be 25 hexes as no ship can hit a target outside 25 hexes. The extra distance just gives a little more time to get ready. To balance, just let the ship have one full turn (a Turn 0, so to speak) to do whatever it wants power-wise (it can't hit the target, so that doesn't matter) and then start the scenario 25 hexes away.
2. It doesn't matter. In theory, 350 points is 350 points. Use whichever scale you choose. _________________

As crazy as it is, players tell me that sometimes one player uses 350 points of squadron scale while the other uses 350 points of fleet scale. I have even had players tell me that the game works just find if your fleet includes ships of both scales. Fleet scale cruisers are more or less squadron scale destroyers. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander
