This came up last night -- Can a ship drop and re-raise a shield more than once in a turn (i.e. the same shield more than once) ? I didn't see anything in 3C2 that prohibits it. _________________ Damn, these dice are cold! |

Yes, you may. The only limitation is that when dropped, the shield must stay down for a minimum of two impulses. Other than that, there is no limit on the number of times a shield can be dropped or raised in a given turn. _________________

That or he just wanted to air out the ship. That electric smell from phasers firing tends to build up inside them. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

If we can come up with TEN reasons to drop the shields, Jean can use it as a Friday Funny.

Wasn't there an occasion on the original Trek series where they couldn't fire their own phasers because the shields were up? Thank goodness that didn't last _________________ Damn, these dice are cold! |

The writers are nowhere near as consistent with their Universe rules as 'we' are in the SFU. They tended to forget the rules when they feel like it.... _________________

Writers changed the universe at the drop of a communicator whenever they needed a new plot device.
TOS fought at warp all the time.
TNG said you cannot fight at warp.
Voyager suddenly decided you cannot turn at warp speed when every previous series did so all the time. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

And how often did we hear this in TNG: "We've matched warp speed for Transporters?" But then I never did get the whole Ship's Counselor thing either: "Lieutenant, when you fired that spread of photons at the Klingons, did you stop to think how that would make them feel?" _________________ Damn, these dice are cold! |
