When the playtest Ship Card for the Federation Byrd-class Galactic Survey Cruiser was first made available, the ship was considered Borders of Madness material at the time due to its use of special sensors (which had yet to be fully integrated as a part of "vanilla" Federation Commander).
However, in the years since, sensors have been incorporated into more recent revisions of the FC ruleset; and thus the GSC has no real reason not to be considered as a "regular" ship, albeit one with a different set of options and priorities compared to other sensor-equipped ships in Ship Card form at this point.
Is there anyone here who has experience using the GSC, either alone or in larger squadrons, under the current set of sensor rules; and if so, how would you rate the ship as it works in FC?
In the longer run, it would be useful for campaign purposes to see more survey cruisers show up in FC. But even if they do, the GSC is somewhat distinct from other SRs (including the Feds' own CLS) in terms of its degree of flexibility. So, I was curious to see how people here might have made use of the options this class of ship would have to offer in this game system. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)
