I fried my computer on tuesday, and it aint looking good, that may put a bit of a damper on playing this campaign. Posting on the forums from work is one thing - don't think I'll get away with playing online.

I'm currently trying to work out whether any of my piggy banks are raidable, but I'm struggling to see me replacing it this side of xmas.

Not sure how I'll cope without a computer for more than a few days Crying or Very sad

Will you be ok doing orders and such on your work computer? If so, we can farm out any fights you have in the mean time. Hardware death always seems to happen at the most inconvenient time.

Storeylf, can you use the computers at your local public library, if work could be iffy?

managed to get up and running - following some playing around I narrowed it down to the graphics card that got fried, fortunately amongst all my old kit in the garage I managed to find another functional card, a bit old (nvidia 7600) but it'll do until I can get another computer.

So I'm back (unless there was another more fundamental issue that fries this graphics card as well). Phew, going cold turkey after 1 day, couldn't face another couple of months being computerless Smile

The Overseer is getting cranky. He does not have all the initial builds yet! Evil or Very Mad Get these in to me by this Sunday, or I will do nasty things by setting up your fleets myself!

Just in case there is any doubt - my original submission applies, I didn't bother to change anything.

Good point. Same with mine. The buy remains the same.

Another clarification please. My opponents this week played the Fed/ISC combo with a twist.

Whilst 'general' was not an allowable race, general ships appear to be allowed to be built (the rules explicitly talk of monitors, which we see as a general ship).

What other general ships are allowed, and more to the point how do they fit into the ship size restriction. My opponents took 2 armed cutters (25pts each) to count as escorts for larger ships. It looked an interesting game so we played it out.

Tonights game resulted in the first destroyed ship in the 3 battles we've played now, does no one else have any comments on the 50*50 map and how easy that makes it to disengage? 70*70 is looking to us like a better size, and is more like a location map (which are often 35 from a fixed point).

If the ships are not part of you empire, you can't buy them. The exception is for fixed defenses stuff like the Monitor and defsats, etc. What General ships are you guys looking at here that I should know about?

I have a question, and this is not to be a wise acre or anything, but just to understand the odd economics of this campaign system.

Since you have to repay the cost of the ship during the economics phase, but you can also pay to repair a damaged ship, isn't it more economic is some cases just to keep the ships in battle until they blow up, and then just pay for a whole new ship without paying extra for repairs?

If you don't mind blowing up ships, buying the new ones and having them delivered to a base, then have at it. It should be noted that the repair costs you pay are a one time deal, so the next turn the 100 (or whatever points) you paid for repair are replaced. ak, repairs don't tie up EP for more than the turn they are used.

We've discussed that sort of thing as well, as there is no discount for keeping an existing ship I can see a number of suicide attacks.

Need a new ship but no room for it then throw an old one at someone so it dies. e.g. if I want to swicth from a fusion ship to a hellbore ship or one with stingers.

A crippled ship costs you 110% to repair, letting it die and replace it is cheaper now and no more expensive on future turns.

Need a fleet near a base, suicide a far away fleet and buy new ships back at base.

The only thing getting in the way of that is the amount of BPV that may be spent at a base in a turn.

I this case it was anything that was cheap and had a move cost less than 1. Armed Priority Transports cost 25pts.

Fed Heavy dreadnaught + APT
ISC Heavy Cruiser + APT.

In the Overseer's opinion, Armed priority transports are little more than glorified freighters. Ships in a fleet must be "warships".
