Dan, plasma fights are always on a location or floating map.
The Stingers' phaser-Gs are excellent plasma shredders, if you can draw the plasma over the stingers prior to impact, which is difficult to arrange. _________________ "Captain" Terry O'Carroll, fourteen papers published including six best of issue

I think it was a location map. But Jon was happy to close the range to eat my plasma anyway, so I didn't really need to run him into a corner. _________________

Technically, it need not be entirely non-historical - there was a limited deployment of Romulan forces to the Hydran front during the General War:
Quote: | There were many tactical battles in Hydran space from Y171 through Y185, but the Hydrans were never again a strategic threat. At one point, the Romulan squadron led by Admiral Roxanna Vulpes was deployed to this theater, resulting in the tiny handful of historical Romulan-Hydran battles. The Romulans remained only a few months, despite having originally been assigned to remain there for at least two years. |
Whether or not said actions included a fight between a Dragoon and a FireHawk or not is up for debate, but maybe... _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

Not a hard-and-fast thing, but I always thought it would make more sense for the Roms to send Kestrel-series ships to the Hydran border.
They could get spare parts and structural repairs from the klinks, who'd built the things in the first place.

Good points, Dan. Anyway as I explained in the OP, the reason I'd been inspired to pick a Romulan ship was 'cos I'd seen a real live Romulan in Torquay.....
I love non-historical style duels because they match ships that were not designed to fight each other in the first place. What's the point a Klingon having an anti-drone when fighting a Gorn or a Romulan? Fascinating... _________________
