If you have any comments, questions, or requests for our Graphics Director, this is the place to let him know. This month’s Hot Topic is "federation commander campaign " which can be found in the General Discussion category. We have added a new Star Fleet Battles section to the forum to discus everything SFB. For new players, the Federation Commander Forum is a little easier to manage whereas the Legacy Discus BBS can be a bit overwhelming. Come see what the commotion is about and join the Federation Commander Forum now! Don't forget our original (discus-based) BBS where most product development takes place. The most active topics of late include: FC: Kzinti Attack, FC: Gorn Attack, FC: Final Stinger Playtest, and FC: Hydran Attack.FC Tactic of the Month One of the most significant tactical changes from SFB is that with four "movement sub-pulses" for each firing opportunity (and the acceleration rules will always let your target use more of them than he thought he would need), there are no more "drop his shield on one impulse and hammer him on the next" shots. SFB was always so fun Café Press is an online marketplace that allows the Star Fleet Universe to produce unique products such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, tote bags, and more with the Star Fleet logos, cover art, and other artwork used for our products. We have added tons of new shirts, mugs, and other products. Want something you don’t see? Please contact Matt Cooper (Graphics Director) with your request. Visit our Star Fleet Café Press Store for a complete listing of the products available. SFB Tactic of the Month Sometimes, moving next impulse is a bad thing. Some examples might be: going to do a range two to zero jump on seeking weapons when you cannot turn or side-slip; you mistimed the emergency deceleration, and you will not be able to weasel in time, turning will expose a down shield, etc. In these cases, do a speed change up (unplotted acceleration) to a speed that does not move next impulse. Odds are, you can find one of these for only one point of power (one hex gained through the end of the turn). And try to count your hexes of movement better next time. F&E Strategy of the Month Attrition factors are good right? The best way to simultaneously maximize the number of attrition factors with a good density line (and a mauler proof flagship for the Alliance) in the mid-to-late war is a relatively easy recipe. The battle group can be quite flexible, including extra scouts or marines to tailor your line to the mission. Mini of the Month Every month we will feature one of our miniatures that has been painted by a fan. If you paint miniatures, submit your pictures and you may be our next Mini of the Month! New Releases Communique #28 has posted to the Commander's Circle TO BE RELEASED ON MAY 5TH TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 2ND TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 23RD SUMMER Star Fleet Fiction Bridge, Orion CR+ Return Fire In a blinding flash, a dozen wide-arc phasers fired stun bolts into the bridge, paralyzing the Orion bridge crew as well as the four Klingon marines guarding them. Medics rushed in to give stimulant shots to the crew while security men handcuffed the Klingon marines and carried them to the brig. The same scene was repeated in engineering. Cargo Bay Four, Orion CR+ Return Fire Korgan, his Slirdarian bodyguard, and the Lyran pirate crewman reached the hatch to Cargo Bay #4 about the same time as the Dunkars reached the main cargo bay. Korgan waved the Lyran in first, then followed him with the Slirdarian following up the rear. Suddenly he heard the sound of a phaser and a loud yelp. He spun around in time to see the bear-ape fall to the deck with a gapping hole in his chest, noting that the voices in his earpiece had suddenly fallen silent. Korgan fired his disruptor immediately, killing the Orion crewman who had suddenly appeared in the hatchway behind them. (More...) Ask Admiral Growler DRONES
ANSWER: Rule (FD6.14) deals with using the probe module for long-range reconnaissance on type-III drone frames in general. This is background data that sets up why your ship might be picking up such drone modules, or why your ship has to be in a particular place to launch such drones. A campaign might define other uses. There are, of course, other uses (having a probe drone watch your last battle, then eject the module to be picked up by whoever comes looking for you). Per (FD6.3), the data generated by a probe drone that you are controlling is fed back to your ship impulse by impulse. A drone gathering scientific information (FD6.31) will give you data based on its closest approach, it does not matter if that was range eight for the whole turn, or range two just before it was vaporized on Impulse #4. In the former case it would be based on range eight, in the latter case based on range two. (More...) Federation & Empire Q&A QUESTION: Using the Advanced Deficit Spending rules, the Klingon spent 120% of the EPs available to him in the Economics Phase, then spent additional points during the Combat Phase (for drone bombardment), and for Field Repairs. Is this legal? Isn't there a 20% cap on overall Advanced Deficit Spending? ANSWER: Yes, the total limit on Advanced Deficit Spending during the entire turn is 20% (430.6). All that Advanced Deficit Spending does is allow you to spend some of the original limit during the Production Phase (something that is not allowed without the ADS rule) and to carry a debt forward rather than repay it immediately. You could borrow some of your 20% cap during Production and more (up to the 20% cap) during the rest of the turn. But whenever you hit the 20% limit, you're done. (More...)
